Message they are bb530 sized VNT's. I picked those b/c of availability (big euro diesels) allthough something like a gt2871v would be a lot more fun! :) Kenny is quite right about the heat issue. They vanes seize shortly... were talking a few thousand miles. They are fine on diesels as the EGT's are consistantly lower. Gas is just too hot for the assembly.

I am currently looking for a seized gt series VNT (gtXXXXv) to tear apart and try to address the failure. I have a feeling the there would be a few fixes that could get a pair to work that Garrett/Honeywell would have rejected due to mass production considerations.

The unit for the new 911 was developed in a effort between Porsche and Borg Warner. They claimed to have addressed the issue. I'm thinking strategic TBC placement, maybe a little boron nitride or moly disulfide here and there and you'd be in business. Hard to say really... thus why in looking for an affected unit.

While getting tires mounted for Zcon, I had this doozy of a conversation with the mechanic...

Tireguy: [looking at emblem] Is this a Twin Turbo?
Me: Well, yea.
Tireguy: Awesome! How much boost do you run?
Me: 14-15 ish.
Tireguy: Cool. On both?

ROFLMFAO
